Lala Ji (باباۓ شال بافاں)
“A Chaadar or Shawl is an integral part of our region’s culture. In our society, women use chaadars in both winter and summer, while men prefer woolen shawls or chaadars during winter. The city of Jalalpur Jattan, Pakistan, boasts an industry that spans over two hundred years, originating from Kashmir.
By the 1980s, the industry had declined, but in 1985, Lala Ji Muhammad Hussain, a native of Jalalpur Jattan, entered the industry and struggled to revive it. He established a modern shawl-weaving industry, focusing on high-quality shawls tailored to contemporary needs.
Thanks to Lala Ji’s tireless efforts, the industry flourished and expanded to other cities, including jalal pur jattan,Mingora, Swat, Matta Mughal Khel, and Peshawar. Today, thousands of families are associated with this industry, contributing to the country’s development.
Lala Ji Muhammad Hussain is revered as ‘Baba-e-Shawl Bafan’ (باباۓ شال بافاں) and is also known as the ‘Moving Laboratory of Wool.’ His expertise in woolen shawl preparation, dying, and finishing is unparalleled. All factories operate under his guidance.
Lala Ji’s wool and pashmina shawls are renowned domestically and internationally under the brand name M-Hussain Shawls.Recently, he launched a new brand, Wool Passion, and entrusted it to one of his successors. It is hoped that people will appreciate this new venture.”
